Project Goal

Enhance user engagement for ShareChat’s 8 million daily users by enabling richer emotional expression through paid, animated reactions—while unlocking a new monetization stream.

The Problem

User interaction on posts was limited to comments and free likes. There was untapped potential in allowing users to express more nuanced emotions, while simultaneously creating a micro-transaction-driven revenue opportunity.

The Solution

A new “Paid Reactions” feature was designed—where users could choose from a diverse set of emotion-based reactions and pay for premium animated responses. These appeared within the video feed, providing a more immersive and rewarding experience.

What I Did

🧠 Ideation – Worked with product to conceptualize emotion sets and interaction patterns
🧪 Prototyping – Designed wireframes and built high-fidelity interaction models
🔄 User Flow Integration – Ensured seamless entry and exit from reaction triggers
🧷 Testing – Conducted device-level QA to resolve rendering issues
🎨 Visual Design – Created 3D assets, animation previews, and in-context UI

Key Features

  • Emotion-Based Reaction Packs
Suggested and trending reactions dynamically placed in feed

  • Repeat Reactions
Users could react to the same post multiple times

  • Top Reactors Leaderboard
    Encouraged competitive engagement

  • Coin-Based Pricing Model
Reactions ranged from ₹85–₹120 depending on the coin pack

Revenue Impact

  • Total Revenue Earned: ₹5.23 Lakhs

  • The feature was adopted quickly but revenue plateaued

  • Despite initial traction, it was paused post-MVP due to limited long-term ROI

Outcome

While the feature didn’t scale, it proved valuable in testing virtual micro-payments and helped shape future monetization models. The visual design and animation triggers were later reused in other engagement modules like profile frames and event badges.

Reflection

Paid Reactions pushed me to balance monetization logic, emotional UX, and system simplicity in a fast-paced environment. It was a great exercise in scaling user emotion into interface language—something I now bring into every social interaction project.
